Dr Boylan is a child and youth psychiatrist and clinician researcher at McMaster University. Her expertise is in the treatment of youth with emotional dysregulation and the assessment of personality features in the context of treatment response. Dr Boylan’s research program is oriented to identify clinical, psychobiological and behavioural processes which contribute to persistent emotion dysregulation in adolescents and young adults. She is passionate about improving diagnostic and health service delivery processes to facilitate care for youth experiencing a psychiatric crisis. She also studies the epidemiology of oppositional behaviour and irritability in children and adolescents.
She leads or participates in several studies with clinical and community participants and is an active supervisor of research trainees and psychiatric residents. She is also the Editor of the Journal of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
